armed men suspected armed robbers last night allegedly launched simultaneous coordinated attacks on three commercial banks in Uromi, the headquarters of the northeast Esan Local Government Area in Edo State.
The armed men, who reportedly came in large numbers and several vehicles, allegedly attacked the banks with dynamite for more than an hour.
She learned that at the end of the operation, as many as five people, including a policeman, were killed by the unmasked gunmen who allegedly managed to seize large sums of money from the three banks.
A resident of the community, who would not like his name printed, described the attacks as “too coordinated and commando-style” adding “It’s new in this town.
“Sporadic gunfire from armed robbers has caused panic in the city. The thieves came prepared. People were running all over the place,” another source said.
Residents reportedly contacted security agencies to come to the aid of banks and residents.
When contacted, Edo State Police Command spokesman SP Kontongs Bello confirmed the attacks. He said “it’s true sir”, but declined to elaborate.
